Andrea Lyons
Grounded
My interest is in place, space, memory and belonging : the ways we navigate our way in and through the world, the places and connections we make, and the traces we leave.
The works in Grounded combine drawing with reclaimed and commonplace objects, and are inspired by the places and people of my ‘home ground’: the earth, fields, wide skies and settlements of rural Lincolnshire, the people that (still) feel like home, and the paths that connect us with each other and with our histories. They are constructed and imagined spaces, sometimes suggestive of geology, biology, the natural environment and its history of human habitation; sometimes of a space pushed out from the claustrophobia of a restless night, by the repetitive marks of biro on paper.
A longing towards the expansive and the meandering as a means of feeling the way home.
